Investigation For Nalani Johnson Continues, Funeral This Weekend


PITTSBURGH, THIS IS KDKA TV NEWS AT NOON. NEW INFORMATION ON THE DEATH OF NALANI JOHNSON, THE TODDLER FOUND DEAD SATURDAY IN INDIANA COUNTY. ALLEGHENY COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY STEVENS OF PELLA RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING HE EXPECTS HER DEATH TO BE RULED A HOMICIDE. AS LINDSAY WARD REPORTS, THE INVESTIGATION INVOLVES LAW ENFORCEMENT FROM TWO COUNTIES. I JUST FEEL AWFUL. I FEEL AWFUL ABOUT IT. EVEN THOUGH SHE DID NOT LIVE NEAR US, IT STILL HITS HOME. Reporter: IT IS A CASE THAT HAS CAPTURED THE ATTENTION OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. NALANI JOHNSON , WHO WOULD HAVE TURNED TWO YEARS OLD ON THE 16th, WAS FOUND DEAD IN HER CAR SEAT TUESDAY AT PINE RIDGE PARK IN BLAIRSVILLE, INDIANA COUNTY. AUTHORITIES SAY THERE WERE NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF TRAUMA. POLICE SAY THE TODDLER WAS KIDNAPPED BY THIS WOMAN, SHARENA NANCY , IN PENN HILLS ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 31. THEY SAY SHE HAD A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LITTLE GIRL’S FATHER. NANCY WAS CHARGED WITH KIDNAPPING AND REMAINS IN THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY JAIL. NOW IS THE CASE MOVES FORWARD, THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE ALONG WITH THE INDIANA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE WILL BE WORKING TOGETHER. IN A JOINT STATEMENT JUST RELEASED, THEY SAY IT WAS AGREED THAT ALL THE CHARGES RESULTING FROM THE INVESTIGATION WILL BE PROSECUTED IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY WITH THE INDIANA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE HAVING A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN THE PROSECUTION. THEY SAY ALL THE MANNER OF DEATH WILL LIKELY BE RULED A HOMICIDE, TESTING IS STILL BEING DONE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. MEANWHILE, AS THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES, WE HAVE LEARNED FROM THE NALANI JOHNSON FAMILY THAT HER FUNERAL WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY.
